A’ IBOM INFO BOSS CHARGES AKNC
Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Barr Ini Ememobong Essien has urged Akwa Ibom Newspapers Corporation, AKNC, to invent innovative, economical and proactive ways of staying afloat to project the visions of government.
Barr Ini Ememobong gave the charge early today during a familiarization tour of the Corporation, as part of his ongoing familiarization tour of Parastatals under his Ministry.
The Information Boss said, with the competitive media world, especially in this technology age, Akwa Ibom Newspapers Corporation needed to carve out means of exerting itself as the only State-owned Newspaper corporation to translate the visions of government to the public through its Pioneer group of Newspapers.
He commended the Management and staff of AKNC for keeping alive in the face of the harsh working environment and pledged to partner the Corporation to turn around the fortunes of the only Akwa Ibom State Government-owned Newspaper.
The Information helmsman used the occasion to once again extend the condolences of Ministry of Information and Strategy to the Pioneer family over the death of 6 staff of the Corporation on the fatal auto crash of 11th December 2019 and pledged to work out modalities towards ameliorating the plight of the bereaved families.
While in a meeting with the Management and staff of AKNC, the General Manager and Editor-in-chief of Pioneer Newspapers, Mr Umoette Umoette had said, the state-of-the-arts Goss Community Press lying unproductive in the Corporation for years would have turned around the fortunes of Pioneer if it had been put into effective use and solicited government intervention in that regard.
Mr Umoette Umoette who expressed the hope that the new Information Boss will intervene in the poor condition of the Corporation also complained of poor staffing and dearth in working tools, equipment and utility vehicles which he said had impeded efficiency of the Newspaper being the only State-owned Newspaper currently afloat in South-South Nigeria.
Present during the familiarization tour were: the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mr Inyang Jameson, the Company Secretary of AKNC, Mrs Josephine Umoren, Directors of the Ministry of Information and Strategy and Management Staff of AKNC.
