CHIEF JUDGE, COMMISSIONER FOR ENUMERATION AS FARMERS
The Directorate of Agricultural Investments, AKICORP, Uyo, is set to enumerate top government officials as part of its ongoing enumeration of farmers exercise in Akwa Ibom State. Among top officials with identified farms lined up for enumeration this week are the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Honourable Justice Godwin Abraham and Commissioner for Agriculture and Women Affairs, Dr.Glory Edet.
This week enumeration exercises will mark a step forward in the upward curve in the success of the statewide gathering of data of farmers for the development of the agric-focused economy of the state, including welfare of farmers.
Last week, the enumeration exercises across the state soared with the enumeration of the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel who revealed he would become richer after governance with over 300 hectares of cocoa and plantain cultivation. The cultivated portions were part of the one thousand hectares of farmers donated to him, not as the governor but as a farmer, by well-meaning citizens of the state.
The governor who showed high enthusiasm as he personally signed his enumeration form, encouraged workers to embrace farming as a way to support their income after retirement. His personal involvement in the exercise clearly boosted the confidence of the elite class to sign on to the government effort in the development of an accurate database of farmers in the state.
Handing the governor the questionnaire for the exercise, the Executive Director, Agricultural Investments Directorate, Pastor Umo Eno, told the governor that the database will help to attract more investments in agriculture, enhance planning for the development of the sector and also enable government reach farmers directly without passing through the middlemen.
It is estimated that about one million farmers would be registered during the exercise which ends June ending.
