Apostle Prof. Essien Daniel Udosen is the acting Vice Chancellor of Ritman University, Ikot Ekpene.. He was admitted into the M.Sc Programme of the University of Calabar, but was advanced to the Ph.D programme in Inorganic Chemistry (Environmental) in 1986, following his outstanding performance in the
preliminary examinations. He earned his PhD degree in 1992 and obtained a Post Doctoral Certicate (PDC) in Pollution Studies from the State Key Laboratory of Environmental Aquatic Chemistry (SKLEAC), Beijing, China in 1998.
Apostle Prof. Essien Udosen was elevated to the rank of a Professor in October 2006 He has served as Visiting Scholar to the University of Ghana, Legon, Accra, Ghana between 2002 and 2003 and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State during 2012/2013 session. He has served as the Vice Chancellor, Ritman University, Ikot Ekpene, after having earlier served as the Head of Department of Chemical Sciences, while spending his sabbatical leave in the same University before he was appointed the Dean
of Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences and later the Deputy Vice Chancellor;
He has served as External Examiner for undergraduate, diploma and N.C.E students as well as M.Sc. and Ph.D students in many tertiary institutions within and outside Akwa Ibom State. He has travelled to countries within and outside Africa and has also published widely with over sixty (60) articles to his credit in reputable journals worldwide. In addition, he has authored three text books and co-authored four text books. He has contributed some chapters in academic text books. Apostle Prof. Udosen was the 68th Inaugural lecturer in the University of Uyo on the topic “Enviro – Chemical Pollutants: The Unwelcome Yet Unavoidable Human Companion in 2019.
Apostle Prof. Essien Udosen had served as a lead consultant to Shell Petroleum Development Company and Exxon Mobil Corporation as well as communities, paralstatals and other companies on environmental matters. His expertise in Environmental Impact Assessment Studies has taken him to virtually all the nooks and crannies of Akwa Ibom State and over two thirds of the states in Nigeria. He was the Pioneer Chairman of Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) from 1993 to 1995 and the Pioneer Board Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection Agency (AKSEPA) from 1994 to 1996. This Agency later metamorphosed into Ministry of Environment in Akwa Ibom State.
He was the Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Sanitation Tariff Committee (1999/2000) as well as the Chairman, Panel on Mobil Air Quality, Precipitation and Corrosion Studies of QIT, Ibeno, Eket and the environ(2001/2002). Between 1997 and 1998, he served as a Research Fellow in the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China. Apostle Prof. Udosen served as the Head, Department of Chemistry, University of Uyo, Uyo, Nigeria from 2008 to 2010 and also as the Head, Department of Chemical Sciences, Ritman
University while he was there on sabbatical leave.
Prof. Essien Daniel Udosen has won numerous awards, including Man of the Year Award by the American Biographical Institute and its Board of International Research, USA ( 2003 ). Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Sanitation Tariff Committee (1999/2000) as well as the Chairman, Panel on Mobil Air Quality, Precipitation and Corrosion Studies of QIT, Ibeno, Eket and the environ(2001/2002). Between 1997 and 1998, he served as a Research Fellow in the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China.
Apostle Prof. Udosen served as the Head, Department of Chemistry, University of Uyo, Uyo, Nigeria from 2008 to 2010 and also as the Head, Department of Chemical Sciences, Ritman University while he was there on sabbatical leave. He is an astute and devoted Christian and had served as a Pastor in some assemblies and groups under St Peter’s Apostolic Church Nigeria before becoming the Apostolic
President of the Mission, a position he held for ten years (December 2005 – December 2015) after serving as Chairman of the Transition Government of the same Mission for two years (2003 – 2005).
Currently he is the Mission’s Adviser and Chairman, Board of Trustees, St. Peter’s Apostolic Church. Apostle Prof. Essien Udosen is happily married and the marriage is blessed with grown up children and grand-children.
