Gowon, Udom, Abbe for Bible Society of Nigeria AGM.
Former head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, rtd., former military administrator of Akwa Ibom State, Gen. Godwin Abbe and Governor Udom Emmanuel are among the dignitaries billed to grace this year’s Annual General Meeting of the Bible Society of Nigeria hosted in Akwa Ibom State.
The annual general meeting hosted by the Akwa Ibom Area of the Bible Society of Nigeria will receive over one hundred delegates from all over the country led by the National President and Board Chairman, Rev. Dr. Olubunmi K. T. Banwo. The AGM which will be held at the Royalty Hotels and Recreations, Eket, Akwa Ibom will hold deliberations on the activities of the organization across the country, in order to reposition it for greater impact in ensuring that bibles are made available in local languages for the reach of the people Nigeria.
A press statement issued by the Akwa Ibom Area secretary, Pastor Affiong Ebong indicates that the AGM will commence with an extraordinary general NEC on April 27 ahead of the formal opening by Akwa Ibom State governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel April 28, while a thanksgiving service to wrap up the AGM will hold at All Nations Christian Ministry Int’l, Eket at 3pm.
Pastor Ebong, while applauding the leadership of BSN for their sacrifice to make bible available in local languages, urged Christian-minded individuals, churches and well-placed citizens to support the programmes of the society. She acknowledged support of churches so far through provision of office facilities and work space during translation exercise and called for further supports form leaders.
She observed that but for the task undertaken by BSN to review and produce bible in local languages like the now popular Efik bible, it would have been difficult for people in rural areas to access God’s words.
So far, the society has translated and produced bibles in twenty languages in Nigeria. “The Bible is the only manual that gives direction to Christians. We are here to reaffirm our commitment and support by ensuring the availability of God’s word,” she said.
