LIFE BLOSSOMS AT 60

Life may indeed begin at 40 but it blossoms at 60! That’s what lesson the grace, plumes and radiance of that rare evening, where formality met warmth and celebration dotted a new chapter of the legacies of Blossom Ebere Okorie, as she marked her diamond jubilee. Tuesday July 22, the city of Uyo came alive as scholars, statesmen, clergy, and loved ones gathered in elegant harmony of that convivial atmosphere to celebrate a milestone that transcended age.

At the heart of it all was Rev’d Mrs. Blossom Ebere Okorie, Registrar of the University of Uyo, whose Diamond birthday celebration was less about the passage of time and more about a life lived with purpose, grace, and quiet impact. The hall buzzed with admiration and gratitude, not just for her decades of service in the university system, but for the values she embodies, integrity, excellence, and an unwavering faith. It wasn’t just a birthday; it was a beautifully orchestrated tribute to a woman whose name has become synonymous with servant – leadership, virtue and spiritual depth. Held as a symbolic expression of honour, the event served not only as a birthday party but also as the converge for formal unveiling of the Celebrator’s new book, “Leading with Purpose.” The publication, which details her leadership journey, was described by many as a reflection of her disciplined career, a life of deep devotion and unwavering commitment to the Nigerian university system.

Speaking on behalf of the University of Uyo community, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Rev. Sister Anthonia Essien, who represented the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nyaudo Ndaeyo, praised Blossom Okorie as “a woman of tremendous impact whose dedication continues to inspire across generations.”

The Akwa lbom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, took the floor at the launch of “Leading with Purpose.” The Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Rt. Hon. Princess Emem lbanga, lighted the occasion with ebullience and grace. In her remarks, the Governor commended Rev’d Mrs. Okorie’s record of leadership, describing her as “a source of hope and a moral compass whose contributions extend beyond the university system.” His Excellency added that he holds the celebrator in high esteem for her compassion, moral forthrightness, discipline and legacy of public service.

Accompanied by her husband, Dr. Ebere Okorie, and surrounded by her children, Blossom Okorie, a true exemplification of her name, blossomed with brilliance, candour and gait of a forty year old, gave lines of emotional thanksgiving ode, attributing her journey to God’s grace and the unflinching support of her family and loved ones.” Each year reminds me of God’s faithfulness,” she said. “I stand here today to thank Him for the gift of life, for my family, and for the opportunity to serve. This is not just my celebration, it is God’s.”

She also expressed gratitude to her husband for his enduring encouragement and for providing a foundation for her growth both in ministry and public service. A pastor and teacher of the Word, she reaffirmed her commitment to biblical teaching and acknowledged the platform that allows her to combine both spiritual and professional responsibilities. Her remarks resonated with the homily given earlier by Rev’d Dr. Godwin Amaowoh, who charged the audience on the power of God’s favour in the life of a person.

Blossom Okorie holds a Master of Arts in English Language and is a respected member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), the Association of University Professional Administrators (AUPA), and is a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration.
