‘No crisis or faction in food union’

National President of National Union of Food, Beverages and Tobacco Employees (NUFBTE) Lateef Oyelekan has reiterated there is no crisis or faction in the union.

Oyelekan said the leadership was intact.

He said: “The current members of National Administrative Council (NAC), elected on December 9, 2016, for four years, are united, save for Comrade Onoja Peter currently on suspension…

“…10 elected members are united in their duties while five of six appointed members are performing their duties with commitment. Comrade Bamidele Busari, the general secretary, is also on suspension owing to his gross infraction of the union’s constitution.”

On alleged tenure elongation, Acting General Secretary Mike Olanrewaju said the two-year extension of the current tenure was adopted by the National Executive Council (NEC) at its 2019 meeting in Abuja.

“… the election was deferred to avoid animosity, bickering and distractions…

“The truth remains that the president was never involved in the tenure extension. Rather, it was a collective decision of union members…”
