PASTOR UMO ENO, CHURCH FATHERS CELEBRATE REV DR. EMMANUEL OSSOM AT 85

The United Evangelical Church (founded as Qua Iboe Church), Itiam Etoi, Uyo, was aglow with joy and thanksgiving as family, friends, clergy, and dignitaries gathered to celebrate the 85th birthday of a spiritual giant, Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Ossom. The event, themed “Divine Protection”, drawn from Psalm 124:1 and 8, was more than a birthday, it was a tribute to a life of unwavering faith, humility, and enduring service to God and humanity.

Leading the dignitaries at the thanksgiving service was the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, who served as the Special Guest of Honour. In a deeply emotional tribute, Governor Eno described Rev. Ossom as a man deeply committed to godly values and a pillar of spiritual mentorship across generations.

“At 85, your voice is still strong, your mind sharp, and your walk with God unwavering,” the Governor said. “We thank God for the many lives you’ve touched and the legacy of faith you continue to build.”
Governor Eno fondly recalled his personal encounter with Rev. Ossom during his childhood, highlighting how the revered cleric baptized him at age ten during a missionary visit to Ikeja, Lagos. “To be sitting beside the man who baptized me decades ago is nothing short of God’s divine orchestration,” he remarked.

The Governor commended Rev. Ossom for his spiritual guidance, particularly during the pre-election period and the formative stages of his administration. “Your counsel has been invaluable. Your support, unwavering,” he noted.
Governor Eno used the occasion to reassure Akwa Ibom people of his unwavering commitment to good governance through the ARISE Agenda. “I promise from this pulpit that I will stay on the path of righteousness and service. The ARISE Agenda is not a party ideology; it is a divine assignment, and we will drive it to its logical conclusion,” he pledged.

The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Akwa Ibom State chapter, Bishop Chris Nyong, delivered a stirring sermon titled “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side” (Psalm 124:2). He reflected on the many trials pastors face and emphasized that Rev. Ossom’s longevity was a testament to God’s sustaining grace, reflecting that for Rev. Dr Ossom to be here at 85, still vibrant, it is evident that God has not given him over as prey.

He has walked through the valley of the shadow of death, but God preserved him,” Bishop Nyong declared. He urged the congregation to rely fully on God, who provides restoration, sustains the soul, and grants divine protection. In a heartwarming moment, Rev. Dr. Ossom took the microphone to appreciate God and the guests for their love and prayers. He expressed deep gratitude to Governor Eno for attending and for his humility and people-centered leadership.

“If it had not been the Lord,” Rev. Ossom echoed, “I would not be standing here in health and strength. I am still ready and willing to do the work of the Kingdom.” The celebrant and his beloved wife captivated the congregation with a soulful and reverent musical rendition to God, a sacred outpouring of enduring faith and gratitude that stirred hearts and invited the presence of the Holy Spirit.
