REJECT NON-PERFORMING POLITICIANS
As the 2023 elections draw nearer, electorates have been charged to reject politicians who only woo them with rice and wrappers during the electioneering campaigns but abandon them after being voted into office.
The charge was made by a prominent northern cleric, Prophet Isa Sadique El Buba last week during Akwa Ibom State Mega Prayer Day held at Ibom Hall, Uyo.
According to the cleric, the electorates should not accept the deceptive gifts of rice for their votes. Rather, they should resist any attempts by politicians to lure them with gifts for their selfish interest. He charged that it was time Christians actively participated in the process of electing those who lead them.
He further admonished electorates to route for only credible candidates who fear God and love humanity, with track records of past achievements that made impact in the lives of the citizens. The cleric denounced endless pillaging of the nation’s resources by selfish politicians, whom he insisted, should not be given any more opportunity in the coming elections
The mega prayer rally which drew thousands of Christians across the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom State, was also attended by leaders of the fathers of faith, heads of Churches, many political appointees of the present government of Akwa Ibom State and some lawmakers.
Tagged, ‘Repentance, Revival and Recovery,’ the occasion witnessed fireworks of prayers for the state, the nation, the church and the forthcoming elections, which, according to Prophet El Buba, will mark the end of perennial misrule, corruption and injustice meted over the years to the electorates and the entire citizens.
To position the church for relevance in the upcoming elections, the fiery cleric said Christians must unite and leverage their huge population in the state to determine who succeeds the current governor, while also urging church leaders to mobilize their congregations to get involved in the unfolding political process in order to ensure credible candidates were fielded for elections.
Stressing the imperative of Christians taking the gauntlet and be more prepared for next elections, so as to ensure the emergence egalitarian society where justice, fairness and equity reign, the cleric observed that talents, skills and resources at the disposal of the Church were enough to be mobilized for the emergence of a new Nigeria.
The prophet, however, regretted that, although many Christians were willing to step out to influence change in the political system, but lack of credible platforms had been a major drawback. He noted that such shortcoming, was why he began the nationwide movement under the Initiative for Better and Brighter Nigeria (IBBN) in collaboration with the The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). The platform, he said was prepared to mobilize volunteers amongst Christians across the length and breadth of the nation for active involvement in the nation’s political turf .
According to him, the primary objective of the movement was to raise awareness for Christians to get involved and change the narrative in governance, remarking that even Moslems were also interested in effecting positive change through IBBN, as Nigerians were tired of continued misrule, incessant killings and endemic corruption in the nation.
Akwa Ibom spiritual fathers such as Prelate Isaiah Issong, Believers Assembly of Nigeria, Primate Emmanuel Josiah Udofia, African Church, Archbishop Udeme Simon, Bishop Nick Iheanacho, Bishop Moswil Umoh, Bishop Gabriel Nkennang, Bishop Enobong Essien, Rev. Victor Akpan, Rev. Joshua Cleopas, among others, took turn to raise prayers for the birth of a new Nigeria.
